We’re excited to announce an addition to the Smarp family: Mike Klein will make Smarp his exclusive employee communications platform partner and work with our Strategic Services function to develop and deliver innovative services for our enterprise customers.
LONDON – March 16th, 2020 – A key part of launching a modern employee communications platform is the immediate ability to deliver highly personalised, relevant communications to every single employee on their preferred channels and devices. What often happens is as soon as that becomes a reality, organisations realise the opportunity to rethink their comms plans and build a desire to take their activities to a new level.
At Smarp, we want to enable our customers to communicate with their employees the way that they expect to be communicated with.
This not only means providing our customers with the tools and software they need but also providing them with access to the knowledge and expertise required to get the job done.
That’s why, today, we are more than excited to announce an addition to the Smarp family as well as our strategic services offering – long time internal communications expert Mike Klein! A former IABC chair in Europe, Middle East and North Africa, Mike brings over 20 years of experience in the field across Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain and the US, working with companies such as Cargill, Shell, Maersk Oil, Veon and most recently running his own consultancy practice, Changing The Terms. Mike is a well known and respected figure in the global internal communications community, who brings a wealth of experience in research, strategy, writing, and in understanding the role of internal influencers in large organisations. We believe his expertise paired with our technology will help our customers take their communications programs to the next level.
The partnership serves to ensure Smarp customers have the highest level of strategic support. With his experience, Mike will work with us to address customer needs like:
Merger & Acquisition Communications
This is one of the times where strategic employee communications is most sought after. Do it well, and your M&A will run smoothly. Miss the mark or even bring in communications after the fact and run the risk of the rumour mills, disengaged and uninformed employees.
Over the years, Mike has been a part of various M&As and learned from experience what needs to be done in order for it to be successful. That, combined with his deep expertise of the Smarp platform, is one example of the type of strategic support now available to all Smarp customers.
Leadership & Manager Communications
The role of leaders and managers in aligning their workforces and adding urgency and credibility to messages has long been known. But how can technology magnify and reinforce the importance of leadership? That's an area Mike sees as one of huge potential. To improve listening, expand reach and to drive targeted messages and connections that make leaders more effective.
A crisis can occur at any moment. The way an organisation handles their crisis communications can often define their future – for the better or the worse. Recent events have shown just how important the role of communications is in situations such as pandemics and quarantines. When remote work becomes the norm, the risk of misinformation becomes high. And as could be expected, the amount of questions employees have in situations like these raises exponentially: “what’s going on”, “how does this affect me”, “are our jobs secure”. Communicating effectively in these situations becomes vital for continued success.
Mike has witnessed and planned communications during crisis situations of different scale and sort. His expertise from different markets and countries gives him unique insight required to quickly plan and execute on crisis communications – a trait which comes in useful when time is of the essence.
As mentioned earlier, the implementation of a new piece of communications technology often gives organisations the opportunity to rethink their comms plan. Suddenly a whole new world of opportunities are available for you to deploy in your communications program. Things that weren’t possible in the past suddenly become possible seemingly overnight.
The first step in these cases is to review the communications plan and strategy. With his strong background in consultancy, research and measurement of IC, Mike specialises in helping organisations connect their employee comms programs with their business goals, objectives and bottom line. As a member of our strategic services providers, Mike will help our customers with both communications strategy and execution, essentially becoming an extension of their communications teams.
