Business gamification isn’t a game in and of itself, it is when game mechanics are applied to business processes, regulations, or procedures, etc.

While an entire novel can be written about how gamification can impact a workplace positively, I’d like to focus specifically on how it can do wonders for your employee engagement.

Here’s how business gamification can help you with your employee engagement:

Because you are constantly engaging your employees through your contests and game mechanics, it encourages them to communicate with you.

Considering how important open communication is for a thriving business environment, this is a benefit that business owners cannot take lightly.

Because workplace gamification often rewards employees for achieving certain results, your employees are motivated to get things done since they know that they will be rewarded for it.

3. It improves your relationship with your employees.

Through rewarding your employees – or running several game mechanics where they get rewarded – you inadvertently deposit to their emotional bank account. This, in turn, can help establish your relationship with them, making it easier for you to engage them in the future.

Crucial points to remember when using business gamification

On paper, integrating the business gamification concept into your workplace shouldn’t be too hard.

After all, it’s hard to imagine your employees going against your decision when what you’re trying to do is to integrate fun and excitement to their existing work process.

I mean, who doesn’t want fun and excitement, right?

However, even having said that, some companies fail miserably at integrating the concept of business gamification into their workplace.

If you’d like to succeed at incorporating business gamification, then these are some points that you can consider:

  • Align your gamification dynamics with your company’s overall strategy. Doing so will keep your company’s culture, vision, and mission, intact as you acclimate your team with the gamification concept.
  • Use the right technology. Using shared technology can make your process of engaging your employees (through gamification) a seamless task.
  • Don’t implement gamification for gamification’s sake. This one’s a big no-no. You need to have a purpose for infusing business gamification with how you’re running your business. For starters, you ought to be integrating gamification to solve real problems that your business is facing.
  • Avoid gamification designs that do not resonate with your employees. If what motivates them is peer to peer recognition, then don’t offer monetary rewards. Your rewards (or the dynamics of your contest) ought to be aligned with what’s important to your employees.
