Every time I log into my social media accounts, I see tons of videos on my timeline. The trend has grown in the past few months and, as a professional, I am not ashamed to admit that even I get caught up in watching excessive videos.


See, I enjoy everything about videos, especially those coming from colleagues who are passionate about their work. I enjoy the video process just as much as the content; Behind the scenes, employees explaining what they do, how they do, and why they do it.

Turns out, I’m not the only one who’s sucked into a time-warp when I start watching videos. Others also tend to spend more time on sites with video, 88% more time to be exact.

Let’s think about that for a minute:  If your website has 5000 visitors per month and a person is averaging 1,2 minutes per session, that makes 6000 minutes in total. With video, though, the same visitors spend 2,2 minutes per session, making 11 300 minutes a month in total – That makes just over 6 hours per day watching your awesome videos!


Question: What kind of video makes viewers loop 6 hours per day?

Answer: The kind of video that meets an individual’s needs and interests.


For me, Rand Fishkin and Whiteboard Fridays hits the nail on the head. His videos feed my curiosity and I walk away having learned something new. I have to say, he’s a likeable guy. And It’s easier for me to trust a message when I’m, in a sense, face-to-face with that person.

I would be more likely to buy his services because I feel a personal connection. It is very hard to trust someone if they never show their faces. That’s why video is a great tool to engage with your clients and give you employees a real voice.
